What Can I Expect

A special bird of prey photography session in Derbyshire! If you're a keen amateur wildlife photographer or you just love birds of prey, these experiences are perfect for you. Everything is geared around getting great shots of these magnificent raptors.

Dan is the head falconer at this Derbyshire centre and it was his idea to offer photographers exclusive time with the birds of prey. Capturing such elusive birds in the wild is a tricky business (and usually requires a lot of waiting around!). These sessions will see you getting up close to the birds with the help of their handlers.

Species at this Derbyshire centre include hawks, owls and falcons. They are highly trained and love to participate in displays and experience days, so they are very used to being around people. And in fact, they relish performing for the camera!

There will be plenty of opportunity to take shots of the birds in flight and sitting pretty on their perches. Dan and his team of handlers will run through exercises, whilst you are well-placed to take superb shots. A photo of a falcon with its full wingspan open is amazing. Capture the eyes of an eagle in a close up pic, or catch the moment a hawk's beak grabs the meat titbit from the handler's glove.

When it comes to taking great photos of birds of prey, they say the best tip is to let the birds come to you. Make sure you select your background carefully and the use of a tripod is often recommended by professional wildlife photographers. Also, don't shy away from shooting in black and white - they make for really good, dramatic shots of these regal raptors.

In essence, you'll have three hours with the birds and the handlers at this Derbyshire centre. In that time you'll get to know their characters and characteristics and you'll capture all that on camera. Buy your Birds of Prey photography experience vouchers now.
