Delving into the Great British mind – what Britons search for on the internet

Have you ever wondered what the most popular things people search for on the internet are? Well, we did and one day we got our IT boffins here at IntotheBlue.co.uk to do some serious number crunching and they came up with some fascinating results…

Internet searches

Who searches for what on the internet? We’ve got the answers

As one of the UK’s leading on-line suppliers of gift experiences, we have hundreds of thousands of visitors per year who come to our website to browse and buy their activity gift vouchers. All that means we’ve got a mind-bogglingly in-depth source of information to lift the lid on just what it is that Britons have on their minds.

We crunched, corroborated and converted over 500,000 unique searches to our website in 2015 and we can reveal that there is certainly an eclectic mix of activities and things that we, as a nation, search for on Intotheblue.co.uk!

Our info graphic shows the most popular search terms on our website in a selection of towns and cities

Looking at our stats as shown on our info graphic, who’d have thought that Aberdonians would be so into juicing? Just when you thought it was only the yummy mummies lurking in the juice bars and delicatessens of Kensington and Primrose Hill that drink those odd-looking green juices, it seems Scotland has fully embraced the juicing craze too. And all that from a nation that invented the deep fried Mars Bar.

Moving to Manchester, it’s all about singing lessons and recording. That’s to say more people in Manchester search for singing on our website than anywhere else in the country. Perhaps the Mancunians are harking back to the good old days of Cool Britannia when the swagger of Liam and Noel Gallagher sold out stadiums around the globe?

Madchester

Shaun Ryder and ‘Mr Manchester’ the late Tony Wilson. Rave on!

Or maybe it’s the echoes the Hacienda days and the Madchester vibe that is inspiring Manchester to make music and sing? Do you remember in the 80s when it was all about those yellow smiley faces before they were called Emoticons and that distinctive spaced out, shoe-gazey sound that echoed around every Student Union in the country? Since the likes of the Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets and James, the ‘baggy’ sound has all but died out, but it seems this part of the north west is clearly still trying to rave on!

Winterfell archery

Northern Ireland loves archery thanks to Game of Thrones?

Hopping over the Irish Sea to Northern Ireland, it would appear that Game of Thrones (much of which is filmed on location and in studios around Northern Ireland) has really taken hold here, as the most searched for term from these parts is archery! Of course, on the fictional continent of Westeros you’d most likely be sent to Winterfell Castle for training alongside the likes of Jon Snow and Rob Stark. However, for those of you who aren’t starring in the HBO series, we’ve also got hundreds of archery centres around the UK where you can learn to be a hot-shot archer.

Spitfire

Realise your dream of flying in a two seater Spitfire

Our other favourite finding is that Londoners love their Spitfires. There’s no denying that the sound of that Merlin engine is a powerful and emotive thing, as it not only represents the brilliant piece of aviation design that it is, but also those fierce aerial battles in the skies of the South East during the height of World War Two. But why does London search for Spitfires more often than any other area of the country? Perhaps it’s because many of those fighter squadrons were based in and around Greater London? And indeed, the IntotheBlue.co.uk office is at Biggin Hill Airport, itself one of those principal fighter bases during WW2, which is another reason why we are so proud to be able to offer you a full range of Spitfire experiences.

One thing is certain; our stats show you what a diverse nation we are, as you are searching anything from Beer and Bungee Jumping, to Flyboarding and Tank driving in your thousands! And as we’ve got all this fabulous statistical information at our finger tips, if you want to know more about what people are searching on the internet for in your area, just get in touch and we can dig out those facts and figures for towns and cities all over the country.
