New year, new adventures with IntotheBlue

With the launch of our new #BeMoreAdventurous campaign, we thought we’d indulge ourselves and take a look back at our favourite new adrenaline-packed activities added to the IntotheBlue.co.uk website in 2014.

As we couldn’t possibly pick a favourite, here they are in no particular order, starting off with the trend for all things retro. We predict the 80s will be mahoosive in 2015, which is quite ace as we are proper 80s kids. And let’s face it, Beth and Kirk have already got the ball rolling with their 1980s themed wedding in Coronation Street last week, complete with bridesmaids as Bananarama and best men as the (who else) Blues Brothers.

We’ve got driving experiences in a Knight Rider pimped Pontiac Trans Am and laps in a Marty McFly style Delorean DMC-12, but our fave has to the the Dukes of Hazzard experience. Bring on the bright orange Dodge Charger complete with confederate battle flag on the roof and doors that don’t seem to work (those Luke and Bo boys always just jumped in through the window!). You won’t be driving along the dusty roads of Hazzard County with Rosco P Coltrane in hot pursuit, but you will be busting a few laps out on a professional race circuit. How cool is that?

Our next favourite activity could be something out of a sci-fi film, but is very much real. A whole new section appeared on our website in 2014 dedicated to the latest high-thrills water sport to hit these shores; flyboarding. These crazy experiences will see you being propelled out of the water by a jetpack and if you’ve got your balance right, you’ll be soaring in and out of the waves like a human dolphin.

Our third pick is something we are convinced is looked down upon by certain sections of the aviation community as it’s very silly and lots of pointless fun! A flour bombing flight basically involves you getting airborne in a vintage biplane, with a stash of bags filled with flour in the cockpit with you. As your skilled pilot zooms in low over the ground-based target, your job is to lob the bag out when you think you’ve lined up the shot. Given the wind and the fact that you’re in a moving plane makes finding the perfect trajectory a tricky thing to get right, so if you nail it, it’s an amazing feeling and you’ll feel like a flying ace.

Something you wouldn’t ever expect to see that is now offered as an experience is a zip wire at the Eden Project. Sending you off along 660m of wire suspended up to 90m off the ground at speeds of up to 60mph, it’s little wonder this one was an instant best seller. Let’s face it, the Eden Project is all very lovely and the plants are very nice, but once you’ve seen one green-leaved thing you’ve seen them all haven’t you? So this high wire extravaganza gives you the very best aerial views with a good does of adventure thrown in too. Brilliant fun.

Last but not least is Sea Bass fishing. Now heading out onto the open seas to catch some scaly things might not sound that adrenaline-filled, but when you’re a landlubber used to sitting in an office all day and the nearest thing you usually get to sea life is swiping your Oyster card on the tube everyday, this sea expedition is a real adventure. What’s more, if you actually catch any of these elusive fish you get to take one home with you for supper – and believe us, line caught wild Sea Bass tastes so much better than the farmed fish that usually adorns restaurant tables.
