What Can I Expect

River Wye canoeing and kayaking guided trips! Paddle down the River Wye near Talgarth in Powys for a very enjoyable morning or afternoon on the water, suitable for all ages from five years old.

These guided tours are hosted and led by British Canoe-qualified instructors, who will teach you all the basics of paddling in a canoe or kayak, before heading off downstream on the Wye to explore the Welsh countryside afloat.

If you’ve never canoed before, you will be shown everything from A to Z, from launching and landing your craft, to paddling forwards and backwards, all whilst being river-aware and safe.

Basics sorted, you will then head off. Your guide will point out wildlife, local landmarks and teach you some of the lingo of the canoeing world, as well as river navigation techniques.

Being on the edge of the Black Mountains, the backdrop for these canoe trips is stunning. It’s some of the best countryside in Powys and canoers and kayakers are wowed by the scenery and the tranquillity of the area too.

As well as all that sightseeing and exploring, there is always time for a few paddle games. And yes, you may very well get wet, so these are optional activities, but everyone finds them fun and a great way to round off the day they went canoeing on the River Wye.

When Is It Available

• Experiences last 2-3 hours available at 9:15am - 12:30pm and 1:15pm -16:30
• Available daily throughout the year, subject to availability

Suitable For

• Minimum age 5*
• * children aged 5-11 must have two participating adults in the same boat
• Children aged 12-15 must have one participating adult

Spectators

• Not suitable for spectators as participants are moving around on the water, but you can meet them at the start/finish points

Anything Else

• Warm comfortable athletic clothing, trainers, waterproofs, hat, jacks and sunscreen needed for warmer months
