What can I expect on the day
There's something quite unusual about these flying lessons in North Wales. Not only is the backdrop for your flight spectacular (that'll be the stunning Lleweni Parc), but you will be taking to the air in a powered light aircraft that can also soar, to get the best of both worlds.
So will you be flying in glider or a plane? Well it's both. All lessons at this North Wales school are undertaken in the Slingsby T61F Venture or the very similar Scheibe SF-25C aircraft. They kind of look like your usual small light aircraft, except the astute aeronautical fans amongst you will notice the wingspan on both is significantly larger...
This is because these two-seat dual training monoplanes take off under their own power and once at a stable height, the pilot can turn off the engine and you go soaring away silently like eagles over the pretty parklands of Lleweni, heading towards the North Wales coastline.
The Slingsby and the Scheibe are excellent choices of powered light aircraft for this aerodrome, as Lleweni Parc boasts a unique geographic location tucked in the lee of the Snowdonia National Park. This prime position is not only one of North Wales's most beautiful spots for flying lessons, it also means the prevailing westerly winds provide some of best 'mountain wave' flying there is. That's why we are offering the 30 and 60 minute flights as standard trial lesson and a 45 minute historic flight giving you the chance to have a go at flying and see the stunning sights of this area.
Another advantage of these aeroplanes is how easy they are to fly. The T61F was used as a basic trainer for the RAF for decades, it is a great starting point in the world of aviation. With your qualified instructor talking you through what to do, you will delight at being able to feel what it's like to flying your own lesson as you climb and cruise over the green and very pleasant lands here in North Wales.
Your flight will last around a total of 30 or 45 minutes and this is from engine start up to engine shut down after landing and taxiing back to the apron. During this time you have the opportunity to have a go at flying the aircraft for yourself, experiencing the sensations of soaring if the weather is suitable, or you can just sit back and enjoy the views above Lleweni Parc and beyond as a passenger. We think these flying lessons at North Wales's most picturesque private airfield are a true aviator's delight.
