What Can I Expect
Take to the skies in style with these Tiger Moth flights over Derbyshire and Staffordshire! We are offering a range of flight durations in a lovely vintage Moth operating out of Derby Airfield.
Sitting midway between Derby city centre and Burton-upon-Trent, Derby Airfield at Egginton is the ideal place for a little fun in a Tiger Moth. It's a family-owned and run airfield, that's home to the very friendly Derby Aero Club. To have a Tiger Moth flying here is a real honour.
The aerodrome boasts three grass runways, so when the wind changes direction you can change the runway you use, which is particularly useful for these tail-dragger Moths, which can be a little tricky to handle on take off. You are also in unrestricted airspace around this south-west corner of Derbyshire, which means the skies are all yours.
Such advantages allow you and your instructor pilot to get your heads together to come up with a flight path for where you'd like to go. You might want to follow the twisting River Trent, you may fancy flying towards Derby, or head the other way in the direction of Burton, with all those pretty villages and market towns in between.
Another option is the ‘Tutbury Tour', which is a 30-minute special offer set tour that'll see you flying over this pretty market town (see if you can spot Tutbury Castle from the air!) and it's great value for money.
One thing's for sure : in an open cockpit Tiger Moth it is proper ‘wind in your hair' aviation from a bygone era. These aircraft were built as tandem trainers, so you will actually be the one in front, with your pilot behind. The views are incredible, as you soar around the local area, flirting with the Derbyshire/Staffordshire borders. In between sightseeing, you'll be able to take the controls and fly.
Friends and family are more than welcome to wave you off and it's the perfect opportunity to bring a picnic and a flask to just have a nice day out enjoying the day's flying. Book your Tiger Moth flight out of Derbyshire's friendliest airfield for some vintage aerial fun!
