What Can I Expect
Here’s a recipe for a successful day out in the capital - afternoon tea, London Eye and a relaxing boat cruise. Put these three elements together and you’ll find yourself taking a capsule ride on the famous London Eye, then setting sail for your afternoon tea afloat.
Given that your vessel embarks at 15:30 in the afternoon, you’ve actually got time to enjoy the London Eye element of this package either before or after the afternoon tea. If you want to make it a full day out by arriving in the capital in the morning, we’d recommend going on the Eye before your cruise so you’re not rushing after the boat voyage.
And of course, it’s rather nice to see the river you’ll be gliding down from the ‘air’ as it were. Sitting pretty at 135m above the ground, at the highest point of this wheel you could be afforded magnificent views of the city and way beyond. Don’t worry if you’re not sure what you’re looking at, each pod has clever little tablets onboard giving you all the explanations and details of each landmark.
Once back on terra firma it’s time to make your way to the opposite bank of the Thames to your departure point at Embankment Pier for your afternoon tea boat voyage. Virtually opposite the London Eye, the vessel sets off from a private pontoon for a gentle one and a quarter hour cruise on the water. You’ll greeted on arrival and escorted to your table, before your waiter or waitress who’ll be looking after your for the duration of the trip introduces themselves.
Just as you’d expect, you’ll be offered freshly brewed tea (loose leaf, naturally!) and a range of coffees to choose from as the accompaniment to your platter of classic teatime treats. As you settle down to munch those tasty sandwiches and tuck into those oh-so-delicate little cakes and pastries, don’t forget to look out of those large panoramic boat windows, where you’ll see all the famous Thames-side buildings slip by.
As the tea is flowing and the attentive wait staff are tending to your every need, the onboard solo pianist will be tinkling those ivories, regaling you with a variety of pieces from jazz tunes to classic moments from the musicals. And as you’re finishing your afternoon tea the London Eye will come back into view, signalling the end of your cruise as you disembark at Embankment Pier. A truly lovely way to while away an afternoon in London.
