A wonderful experience. Hosted by very enthusiastic and friendly driver, fireman, guard and trainer, we had the run of the line for several miles between several stations and 3 sets of level crossings. The line is closed to other usage on training days, so we're the only ones on the line. There's plenty of long straights, curves and gradients to experience all combinations of speed and braking, and the experienced staff are right by you, advising and helping; you can do as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. Usually the half day involves up to 6 'trainees', and at regular stops along the route you change roles, so you get to experience everything. You learn a lot during the event; not just how to do things, but how things work and why. The day starts with tea/coffee, a bacon roll and a safety training session, and ends with a goodie bag including a mug and T shirt. I worried about what clothes to wear (were they going to get torn or dirty), but I needn't have worried; everyone gets a boiler suit to wear over their own clothes. During the day there's plenty of opportunity for photo shoots, and the staff are only too happy to take pics of you with your phone/camera. Family and friends aren't allowed on the 'training' train (health & safety rules) and there's no cafe on Rolvenden station for them to wait, but apparently from next year (2017) the course will run from Tenterden station where the they have better facilities - cafe, better training room etc.
Yes, I recommend this product.
