What Can I Expect

Jump solo at Shotton! These two-day, level one AFF skydiving experiences in Durham include all the ground training you need to be able to take your first solo parachute jump. How exciting is that?!

Designed to give you a true taste of what it’s like to train to become a certified skydiver, these Accelerated Free Fall courses require commitment, but absolutely no previous parachuting experience is needed.

You will be accompanied all the way by the dedicated team of skydiving instructors. Starting with ground school on day one, you’ll cover the theory and the practice of what jumping out of a plane actually entails.

Having passed ground school, your second day at Shotton Airfield begins with a recap of what you’ve learned. And then it’s time. Time to get kitted up in all the gear (jumpsuit, helmet, altimeter and your parachute rig), ready to hop onboard the skydiver plane!

Once you’ve reached altitude, there’s just about enough time for one last pep talk and then it’s over to you. Your. Very. First. Solo. Jump.

The nerves are bound to kick in, but with the adrenaline pumping and one last shout of encouragement from the pros, you tumble out of the aircraft, with your duo of instructors by your side.

The feeling of that solo freefall is unreal. As you float down to the drop zone, catch your breath and get ready to execute the landing, just as you’ve learned. Then it’s a case of congrats all around (with the biggest smile on your face), as you realise you’ve just completed your level 1 AFF at Durham’s Shotton Airfield with success!
