What Can I Expect

Make your way to Folkestone's Creative Quarter for these silversmith courses! It's off to the Kent coastline for these wonderful jewellery making workshops, where you have the chance to gets on hands-on with the ore to create some fabulous silver jewellery.

This Kent studio is where Leah and Cerys create and sell their jewels and art. It's on a cobbled street in the very heart of the old town of Folkestone, with lots of arts, crafts, cafes and eateries all around, creating a lovely vibe to the whole area.

We are offering a trio of silversmith courses at this Kent studio. For those curious to discover how silver can be worked, there's the two-hour workshop to make a silver bangle. Simple, yet highly effective, a sterling silver band is a lovely piece of jewellery to make and wear. You'll learn the shaping techniques and even how to clean and polish your bangle so it shines brightly around your wrist.

Silversmithing is suitable for all the family, which is why we have the family ring-making workshop. Over two hours you will learn how to make a hammered silver ring each. Host Leah will assist the little ones with the bits of the process that involve heating up the metal, so this is course that's suitable for even the youngest of silversmiths.

For those wanting to really explore silversmithing using traditional techniques and methods, we highly recommend the full-day course. You'll be concentrating on making a ring or a pendant, adorned with a cabochon stone. That's to say a colourful stone that has been polished into a domed-form that's flat on the other side to fit perfectly into your silver creation.

If you're wondering if you have the creative eye to participate in a course like this, it's worth remembering what Leah herself says. She very much believes in Wabi Sabi, which is the Japanese idea of 'beauty in imperfection', which means that hand-made touch just adds to the appeal and the charm of your jewellery. And of course, everything you make during your silversmith course in Kent is yours to keep, whether you wear it yourself, or give it as a gorgeous bespoke gift.

Leah’s workshop was fantastic - really enjoyed the experience

My husband and I had a thoroughly enjoyable time with Leah at the bangle workshop. We learnt many top tips to help us start our jewellery making hobby, and came away with 2 lovely bangles that I will treasure, as we played a part in making them. We will return for sure, and I am hoping to be able to produce a special ring, with a lot of help from Leah. I cannot recommend this experience enough, and thank Leah for all her patience and encouragement.

Loved the bangle making workshop. They were really friendly, and welcoming. The experience was great fun and we went away with a lovely bangle each. We are definitely going back particularly as they are going to help me remake my wedding ring, which is too big and damaged.
