What Can I Expect
It's all about the resident bees, bugs and butterflies on these beekeeping experiences in Berkshire! You'll be invited to join the beekeepers of Windsor for a relaxing and mindful few hours learning all about how to look after bees.
Elisabeth has set up her apiaries in four acres of wild meadow fields bordering the Royal Windsor Forest. It's a thoroughly idyllic place for both bees and humans to flourish, with lots of wild flowers and an orchard of fruit trees all providing the pollen for the bees in their hives.
The worker bees buzzing around their Berkshire home are British Buckfast bees. Elisabeth explains that this particular species is ‘well-behaved, polite and prolific', which sounds like a pretty good combination to us. You'll get to meet, observe and handle these busy bees during your experience.
With the firm belief that there is a season for everything and a time for everything, these courses very much focus on the natural rhythm of the life of a bee. In today's ‘instant gratitude' society, it's all about patience with beekeeping, as the honey is only ready when it's ready, which is a rather refreshing approach these days.
It's worth noting that Elisabeth's honey is completely natural and it hasn't been filtered, strained or blended. With the forest's larder filled with everything from horse chestnut blossom, to foxgloves, the honey from these Berkshire apiaries has a delightful floral flavour.
As well as learning all about what beekeeping entails, you will also enjoy a lunch break with cheeses and charcuterie being served over a glass of wine or a soft drink. We think these beekeeping courses in Berkshire are the most civilised and convivial days out with the bees we've ever come across!
