What can I expect on the day
Book yourself on a day out that's steeped in Royal history with a Windsor Castle tour in the morning and a Tower of London tour in the afternoon! We think this excursion combines two of the country's most famous landmarks on one very enlightening daytrip.
You will be setting off by executive coach from London's Victoria Station, headed for Berkshire. You really can't miss Windsor Castle as you drive up to it, as it is a huge estate rather than just one lowly castle. There are the lower, middle and upper wards, as well as the Curfew and Round Towers and not forgetting St George's chapel - all within Windsor Castle's walls. On this tour many of the buildings are opened up, so you can take a sneaky peak at what life in the monarchy is like.
In fact, the castle is the preferred weekend getaway for Queen Elizabeth II and it has been estimated that around 500 people live and work at Windsor Castle. During your tour you'll hear how many presidential and state banquets have been held here and learn what a significant part Windsor has played since the days of William the Conquerer and the Norman conquest.
Highlights of this Windsor Castle tour include visiting the State Apartments (check out the amount of gold leafing in the very ornate Crimson Drawing room!) and St George's Chapel too. Windsor itself is a very pretty town on the River Thames and you may have a little time to explore this as well before hopping back on the coach to go back to London.
The afternoon is spend on a Tower of London tour. Right on the northern bank of the Thames, this has to the one of the most famous tourist attractions in the capital. To say those Yeomen with their bright red uniforms and funny hats were iconic would be an understatement! Not to mention the famous legend about the tower falling down if the raven birds ever fly off never to return.
It's worth pointing out that your package includes fast track entry tickets to the Tower of London. You also have access to the White Tower, the Henry VIII exhibition and the Prisoners of the Tower exhibition too
We think this combined package of a Windsor Castle tour with fast, queue-free access to the Tower of London is the best way to see these two very famous places in one day. And yes, there will be plenty of time to take photos too.
