What can I expect on the day
You could be forgiven for thinking that a visit to a building is somewhat dull. But when that building is the Shard and a meal for two is also included, the idea takes on a whole new dimension and becomes a superb skyscraper of a day out in the capital!
Forget the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, we've got a home-grown high-rise attraction that really can't be beaten. From the moment you step into the first lift and are whizzed up to the 68th floor at a speed of six metres per second (and that's vertical!) you know this is a very special piece of modern architecture.
Drink in the views of the 68th floor (there might even be a deckchair so you can have a lounge and check out the vistas!) and make sure you take lots of pictures (as yes, cameras are allowed). But before you step back in the lift to head to the second viewing gallery, make sure you pay a visit to the loos…that's all we're saying.
So you're up on the 72nd floor. Despite the ultra-thick glass, the top is actually open, so you can feel the breeze and hear all that background noise of the city as you look out. Again, taking a few snaps when you are this high up over the capital and above every other building on the skyline is a absolute must.
As for where you'll be dining after your Shard adventure: it's a large, open-plan restaurant with basement bar, it's all about classic Italian food here. Sit down on one of the large red Chesterfield-style couches, order your food and reflect on what a superb edifice the Shard is and the fact that you were 'all the way up there' just minutes beforehand.
Home to offices, apartments, restaurants and a swanky five star Shangri-La hotel, it's hardly surprising that the Shard is one of London's most sought-after addresses. Now this Shard and meal experience gives you the chance to see the same views all those millionaires do, with a tasty treat for two afterwards.
