Falconry – the sport of hunting with falcons or other birds of prey; the keeping and training of such birds’. That’s how our online dictionary describes it and Into the Blue offers 30 different ways to experience this noble country pursuit. And with centres dotted throughout the UK, you won’t have too far to travel to take part.

What we love most about this range of falconry experiences is that all offer ‘hands on’ time with the birds, so you will find yourself being kitted out with a falconer’s leather glove and waiting with baited breath for your raptor to swoop down, glide in and come to a gentle halt on your gloved hand. If you’ve never experienced this, it really is a moment to savour. We can’t really find the words to describe how it feels because it’s one of those ‘have to be there’ moments, so the best thing to do is to book one and see for yourself!

The experiences range from introductory one and two hour sessions, to half and full day courses where you’ll enjoy a more in depth look at the work of a falconer. Prices range from just £27, right up to £335.

If you buy a voucher for a loved one, many centres offer family and friends the chance to join in the fun as a spectator in return for a modest charge on the day. This means you can take lots of photos and get up close to these majestic birds of prey such as Harris Hawks, Peregrine Falcons and European Eagle Owls too.
