This learn to kayak activity  takes place in the calm and inviting waters of Weir Wood Reservoir in West Sussex, the perfect location to learn all about kayaking.

Kayaks differ from canoes in that you sit down inside with your legs stretched out in front of you and use a two bladed paddle. Once you get used to controlling your Kayak  you'll love the sensation of cutting through the water with ease.

All the instructors are British Canoe Union (BCU) qualified and passionate about their sport. They will show you how to use the kayaking equipment and give a safety briefing before taking you out on the water.

These learn to kayak experiences are specifically aimed at beginners and are particularly good for those who have never even paddled before. The idea is to help teach you about safety awareness, equipment selection, kayak and rescue techniques as well as taking part in some rather watery games in the wilds of West Sussex! Your activity will last around 3hrs and will cover safety awareness, equipment selection, kayaking techniques and capsize techniques. There will also be some fun and games on the water. All equipment and tuition is provided. You will form part of a group of up to 12. Wetsuits are not provided.


Sessions run on selected weekdays and weekends from March to October.


Weir Wood Reservoir with easy access from the A22. The waters are calm and ideal for beginners.


Maximum weight limit is 100kg / 16 stone. Minimum age is 14 and under 18's need to be accompanied by a participating parent or guardian. Suitable clothing for the time of year should be worn. Wetsuits/drysuits are not provided, so a complete change of clothes or a wetsuit with appropriate footwear is also needed. Non swimmers are welcome but please inform your instructor when attending.


You are advised to bring plenty of water and a packed lunch as facilities are limited on site. This activity isn't suitable for spectators.
