Take your first steps in kayaking with the benefit of expert help and the added bonus of beautiful, scenic surroundings in this fun-to-learn activity set in beautiful countryside at Llangollen in North Wales.

Your kayaking lesson begins with registration and provision of all the equipment you will need, including buoyancy aid, safety helmet and kayak to suit your height and build. Your qualified instructor will give a full safety briefing and demonstration of the equipment.

The tuition will take place on a calm stretch of the river or nearby canal section, so you can concentrate on developing your technique without having to worry about being carried off on the current. You will be taught basic control skills and the theory of the capsize drill.

Once you start paddling in straight lines, your confidence will grow with time and before the end of the session there's always time for a few games of kayak tag to round things off!

Kayaking sessions last around two hours for two or more people or one hour for an individual. When booking for one, the instruction is on a 1:1 basis and lasts one hour. When two or more book the sessions last two hours with a maximum group size of six per instructor. Other related water sport experiences are available on our main canoeing and kayaking home page.


This experience is available all year round, however please note availability may be limited during winter months (November - February). Sessions typically start at 09:45, 12:00 and 14:00.


The minimum age is eight and there is no upper age limit. Pregnant women are not permitted to take part. You do not have to know how to swim, but you need to be confident in moving water. You will need to wear a t-shirt, swimsuit and shoes you do not mind getting wet. All other equipment will be provided. Changing facilities and showers are available on site but you need to take your own towels.


Family and friends are welcome to spectate from the river bank. Meals and other refreshments can be purchased from a cafe on site.
