
Learn to Hydroplane in Birmingham! These one person hydroplane powerboats are like nothing you will have ever seen before out on the water. Designed and built in Japan, the racing hydroplaners have captivated a nation and we'll sure you'll be hooked too.
The Yamato OSY 400 hydroplaning boats you'll be driving are finely tuned boats that are totally race-ready. In Japan drivers of these hydroplane boats are truly big stars with the crowds loving the racing series. Now European marinas have caught on and these little powerhouses are drawing a big following here too.
In fact, the Yamato series of watercraft is unique in that when you're piloting the boats you're virtually lying down and the throttle is not a pedal or a lever, but operated by a trigger in your hand. Just imagine skimming over the lake at speeds of up to 67mph with your face just centimetres from the glistening waters - brilliant fun!
Before you are let loose in the Hydroplane on the Birmingham inland waters, you'll have a full safety briefing and get properly kitted out. Once you've got the knack of piloting the boat you'll be amazed at the speeds these craft can go at and you will be literally planing over the lake in these super light vessels.

Your Hydroplane experience starts with a meet and greet, followed by a full safety briefing and getting kitted out in appropriate safety gear. You will then be out on the water driving your Yamato OSY 400 hydroplane boat around a racing course on the lake for three sessions. A buffet lunch and refreshments are provided for all drivers. The maximum group size for this activity is 20. All safety equipment is provided and must be worn as advised. Allow five hours on site for your experience.

Hydroplane driving experiences run on selected weekdays, Saturdays and some Sundays from May through to the end of September. Sessions start at 09:00 and last around five hours.

Your Hydroplane experience takes place on an in-shore lake near Sutton Coldfield in Birmingham, with easy access from the M42.

There is a minimum age of 16 years for this experience, with a maximum weight of 16 stone and maximum height of 6'2". Participants should wear suitable clothing such as lightweight jeans, trainers and a long sleeved top or pullover. It is also advised to bring a change of clothes too. You will be required to sign a declaration of your fitness to participate.

Spectators are welcome to join your day and there is no charge. For £10 per person spectators can join in with the buffet lunch and this must be booked directly with the supplier in advance. There is a clubhouse on site providing changing and shower facilities, as well as toilets. Refreshments are available and there is a buffet lunch included for all hydroplane drivers.
