Introduction to Polo in Berkshire

Near Windsor

Experiences Flash element

The sport of polo is renowned as a pastime of princes, playboys and the very rich, but this Into the Blue polo experience shows you it's a horse-mounted sporting challenge everyone can enjoy.

This learn polo session takes place at one of Britain's leading polo clubs near Windsor in the heart of Berkshire and is suitable for the complete novice, taking you from training on a wooden horse to mounting your own polo pony.

Your polo playing experience starts with getting kitted out with the right size of stick, then the practical work begins on a wooden horse, where you will be given expert tuition in how to control your 'mount' and use the polo stick.

Once you have gained confidence and understood the commands you will then be taken to the polo ponies to put the theory into practice. Don't worry if you've never even ridden a horse before, it's not needed!

The ponies are highly trained animals and those selected for tuition are patient, well-behaved and have a quiet manner, making them safe horses for any rider. The focus of these learn polo sessions is on enjoyment and your instructor will do everything to ensure you enjoy the occasion and make the most of your polo experience.

During winter months, the activity takes place in a large, covered indoor school and in fine weather you'll be outdoors in the main training arena.

Allow around two hours on site for your polo experience with around one hour for the actual lesson. Safety is of paramount importance and the instructors are all fully qualified and skilled at teaching riders with little or no riding experience. You will be working in a group of up to six fellow novices so will all have the chance to learn from each other's experiences.

The polo centre is open Tuesday to Sunday, 0900 to 1700 hrs; closed bank holidays and Christmas.

The minimum age is 12. Maximum weight is 15 stone. All the equipment you need will be provided, including helmet and appropriately-sized polo stick. You should wear comfortable clothing that doesn't restrict movement of your arms and, preferably, narrow fitting trousers. Ladies should not wear skirts or heels.

Spectators are welcome and can watch from a special viewing area. A covered box is available if the weather is cold or wet. The venue has toilet facilities and a small cafe for light refreshments.
