Jewellery making courses with professional jeweller Rachel Jeffrey offer an insight into the art of making your own bespoke silver jewellery, as you learn at her workshop near St Albans in Hertfordshire. This course is a perfect gift activity for someone wishing to develop silversmith and jewellery craft skills.

This one day class allow you to learn about the specialist techniques involved in producing jewellery, using a variety of silver smithing skills and specialist tools. The experienced designers will help you plan your masterpiece and then make it a reality as you create your own unique piece from raw materials.

Rachel has been creating bespoke jewellery for over 10 years. During this time, her creations have developed to reflect her own distinct natural style. As well as producing unique jewellery to sell from her shop in Hertfordshire, Rachel was commissioned to create a brooch for the Queen Mother's 100th birthday, now favoured and worn by Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

After an introduction to the materials that will be used, you will work in partnership with the jewellers on a design for your piece. You will then head into the workshop where each process of production is broken down into stages. Following a detailed demonstration of each stage, you will proceed to your own work station and try it for yourself, always under the close supervision of Rachel or one of her technicians.

By the end of the workshop you will have created your own unique piece of silver jewellery to take home with you which could very well make a perfect gift to give someone you love!
The jewellery making course runs from 0930 to 1430, with a short lunch/refreshment break at 1230. All materials, equipment and tuition are provided and instruction will be on a 4:1 ratio with a maximum group size of eight. Larger gauge rings and pieces involving additional materials can be created, but additional costs will apply. A presentation box or bag is provided for you to take work home in.
The sessions are available on Fridays and Saturdays, with approximately four dates each month. Groups of seven or eight booking together may be able to select additional dates.
Hertfordshire, near St Albans, with easy access from the M1, A1M and the M25.
The minimum age is 16 and no previous experience is required. The workshops involve the use of some power and heating tools and all relevant safety equipment is provided. No food or drink is allowed in the workshop, however tea and coffee is provided in the adjoining shop.
This experience is not suitable for spectators, however visitors are welcome to visit the shop adjacent to the workshop to see examples of Rachel's work. There are numerous places in the village to eat and drink, with a pub located just a short walk from the workshops. There is free parking available nearby.
