Enjoy expert helicopter flying lessons in Leicestershire! This helicopter centre based at Stoughton Airfield near Leicester has been offering professional heli training and charters for many years and is approved and regulated by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

This venue operates the two seater Robinson R22 , as well as the Schweizer 300CBi helicopter. Quite a rare helicopter in the UK, the Schweizer heli, previously built by Hughes, is now part of the impressive Sikorsky stable of helicopter manufacturers and is distinguishable by its single, three-blade rotor and two-bladed tail rotor. The other advantage is that the weight limit for helicopter flying lessons is 22 stone rather than 17 stone in the Robinson.

With a choice of 20, 30 or 60 minute lessons, your expert heli pilot will tell you all about the principles of helicopter flight and explain the controls to you before you climb into the two-seater heli. If you've never been in a helicopter before, just hearing the noise of the rotor blades starting off will get the heart pumping! Adjust that headset, listen out for air traffic control and as the blade speed increases you'll suddenly feel the chopper lift off the helipad and with a swoosh you're hovering over the Leicestershire countryside! Truly unforgettable. 

Trial lessons are in a modern 2 seater helicopter, either the Robinson R-22 or Schweizer 300. Lessons include a full pre flight briefing explaining the principles of helicopter flight. Your instructor will demonstrate how the helicopter controls work before giving you the chance to take the controls yourself, you can have as much or as little hands on control as you like. After the flight your pilot will debrief you, answering any questions that you may have, before presenting you with a personalised flight certificate. Tea and Coffee are usually provided for guests.


Flights are available on most weekends and weekdays, subject to weather conditions.

Maximum weights are 22 stone for the Schweizer 300 and 17 stone for the R22. Guests over 6'6 may have difficulty being accommodated in the aircraft. Minimum age is 14, under 18's must be accompanied on site by an adult guardian. Flight times are measured from start up to shutdown.


Spectators are welcome at the airfield, you can usually sit in on the pre flight briefing and take photos from the runway apron under supervision. There is a clubhouse on site with a Cafe and viewing areas over the runways. The airfield has a family friendly atmosphere and is an ideal place to spend time watching the aircraft come and go. Pets are not allowed on the airfield.
