Aim high with this unique mile high glider flight in Wiltshire! Normal glider flights usually launch at around 2000ft, but this fabulous gliding experience will see you being aerotowed up to the giddy height of 5,280ft (that's one mile high!) and then released to go soaring into the air currents.

Being a mile high above the ground in a fixed-wing aircraft with no engine is truly a moment in aviation to savour. Gliding in free flight at this height is as close as you can get to being a bird and, depending on prevailing winds, air currents and thermals, you could be gliding from anywhere between 35 and 60 minutes.

Given that you'll start your glider flight at a mile high, you'll get an amazing view of the rolling hills surrounding the airfield in Wiltshire. You may even be able to glide over the famous Uffingham White Horse and gaze down on the glistening South Cerney Lakes as you let your eyes take in everything around you as you sit in your privileged seat in the cockpit.

Of course, not only do you experience glider flight and aerial sightseeing, you will also actively take part in your mile high glider flight by taking control of the aircraft. We love the idea that you will be flying the glider at a mile above your friends and family who'll be waiting for your landing back at the airfield. It really is a glider flight like no other!

You will begin your experience with a safety briefing and carry out the pre-flight checks with your instructor. You will be launched one mile high (5280 ft), aerotowed by a powered aircraft. The glider flight will last approximately 35-60 minutes during which your pilot will demonstrate the controls before allowing you to fly the glider yourself for part of the lesson. Flight durations are subject to weather conditions. All instructors are BGA qualified and flights take place in a two seater training glider.


Mile high glider flights take place every weekend and public holiday throughout the year. The gliding centre is open from 10am until 5pm .


Flights take place at a gliding centre located at Sandhill Farm Airfield located around 2.5 miles north west of Swindon in Wiltshire.


A minimum age of 14 years is required. All under 16's must be accompanied by an adult. The maximum weight limit is 16 stone and the maximum height is 6'3''. You must be able to meet the same medical requirements for driving a car.


Spectators are very welcome. This mile high package also includes two months free membership at the gliding centre allowing you to book additional flights at membership rates.
