Gliding in North Yorkshire
Renowned nationally for excellent training, your glider experience in North Yorkshire will be informative and unforgettable.
Priding itself with a reputation for being friendly, this
gliding club is based at an ex World War II bomber command airfield and boasts three active runways and operates eight twin seater gliders including K13, K21 and Janus aircraft.
Their aim is to offer you a memorable day as you soar above the Yorkshire countryside. Gliding is all about enjoying the experience of searching for the rising currents of air (or thermals) that will lift you higher and higher, gliding you further and further. Experience vouchers are also available for
traditional flying lessons in single and four seater planes.
Once down on the ground, the instructors always make time to answer any questions you may have about your
gliding experience
- everything from 'How does a glider stay in the air without an engine' to 'Is it easy to loop the loop?'.
Experience summary: Each aerotow lasts between 15 and 30 mins. If the allocated flight duration is met on the first launch, additional launches may not take place.
Availability: Gliding takes place Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays 1100 - 1600. During the summer months you may be able to go gliding in the evening.
Location: North Yorkshire, the airfield is five miles from the M62, providing access to the A1 and M1 motorways and one mile from Selby.
Requirements: The minimum age is 13, maximum weight 16 stone and maximum height 6'3".
Spectators and Facilities: Spectators are welcome to come and watch you during your experience. There is a clubhouse providing hot drinks and sandwiches and there are pubs and local hotel and B&Bs that can also be recommended.
