Go gliding in Swindon and soar over the Vale of White Horse! This gliding centre just north of Swindon prides itself in offering friendly and professional flights over the gorgeous countryside that surrounds their airfield.
The club is a member of the British Gliding Association and adheres to all the strict rules and guidelines when it comes to flying and maintaining its fleet of three gliders, but all without losing that convivial club feel. On your gliding experience you'll be taken up in a two seater glider with a fully qualified gliding instructor and also meet other members of the club who help with logging and signalling.
These gliding experiences are all operated by aerotow, so a small light aircraft will tow you, your instructor and the glider up to around 2000ft before letting you go so you can catch those air currents and go soaring through the skies for around 20 minutes, letting the wind take you. A truly blissful way to enjoy silent flight.
We are offering vouchers for one, two or three aerotows at this gliding centre near Swindon and on each experience there will be time for you to have a look around the glider, chat with your pilot instructor and, once in the air, you'll get the chance to have a go with the glider controls.
All flights begin with a safety briefing and pre flight checks. You will be aerotowed to 2,000 feet by a powered aircraft with each flight lasting approximately 15-20 minutes. During the flight the pilot will demonstrate the controls before you have a go at flying the glider yourself. All flying instructors are BGA qualified. All flights are conducted in a two seater training glider.
The gliding centre operates every weekend and public holiday throughout the year from 10am until 5pm.
The gliding centre is located around 2.5 miles north east of Swindon in Wiltshire. There is easy access from M4.
A minimum age of 14 is required however all under 16's must be accompanied by an adult. There is a maximum weight limit of 16st and a maximum height of 6'3''. Warm outdoor clothing is recommended. You must be able to meet the same medical requirements for driving a car.
Purchasing a gliding lesson also gives you 2 months free club membership at the gliding centre, during this time you may take additional flights at membership rates. Spectators are welcome.
