Gliding in Northamptonshire
Gliding in Northamptonshire is a friendly, 'hands on' affair, where a warm welcome is assured. With around 80 members, the club operates three two seater
gliders as well a two tug aircraft and everyone takes their part in the general club duties.
All are welcome and members currently range from 16 years old to well into enjoying retirement. The instructors always enthusiastic as they go gliding because the want to, not to pay the mortgage!
Gliding is organised throughout the year on weekends and Bank Holidays with some evening flying is the summer to make the most of the superb thermals.
It may be a small club, but it's perfectly formed with friendly staff, affable instructors and good facilities too including a clubhouse providing the essential pilot food of tea, coffee and butties!
Experience Summary: Your choice of one or two aerotows at this glider club in Northants. If you wish, at the instructor's discretion, you may take the controls and pilot the craft. Your experience will take you to approximately 2000' above the ground and will last between 15 and 25 minutes for each glider flight. Your briefing may be shared with other participants however there will be a chance to ask any questions you may have and the flight itself will be on a 1:1 basis.
Availability: Gliding is always scheduled for weekends and Bank Holidays with some mid week dates during the summer.
Requirements: There is a maximum height limit of 6'4" and maximum weight limit of 16 stone. The minimum age for gliding is 13. You won't be able to go gliding if you suffer from epilepsy, fainting or any condition that could endanger the flight. You must also be able to follow instructions and climb in and out of the aircraft unaided. Please wear flat soled shoes and bring a jumper with you in case it gets cold at higher altitudes. Bring gloves in the winter and sunblock and a hat in the summer. Sunglasses are recommended all year round.
Location: Northamptonshire, the glider club is located near Hinton in Brackley.
Spectators and Facilities: Spectators are welcome. A camera or a pair of binoculars will come in handy to watch the progress of their gliding experience. Other
flying experience vouchers including traditional flying
lessons are available.
Note: All instructors who teach gliding in this Northants centre are BGA approved.
