Flights from Staverton Airport

Gloucestershire Airport

Experiences Flash element

Delight in a flight from Gloucester Airport which takes you to the heart of the Cotswolds! This friendly flying school is based at this bustling little regional airport formerly known as Staverton and you'll love the mix of lessons in light and commercial aircraft at this modern airport with historic roots.

The airport first began operations back in 1931 and soon became a popular airfield for flight testing by aircraft manufacturers. During WW2 Staverton became an RAF Training Centre, before reverting back to commercial activities and scheduled flights post-war. Scheduled flights continue today and Gloucester Airport handles around 90,000 movements each year on three asphalt and one grass runway.

Before you take off from one of these runways, your pilot instructor will have a chat with you about what will happen during your lesson and what to expect. Then you'll get comfortable in the cockpit of the tandem seat Cessna 152. These high-wing trainers capable of a 100 knots cruise speed are one of the all-time best selling training aircraft and surprisingly agile and easy to fly.

Once airborne, you will get to find that out for yourself as you take the controls and fly over the beautiful Cotswolds before landing back at the airport.

Trial flights consist of a briefing with your instructor, followed by your selected flight time in a Cessna 152 . You will do as much of the flying as possible (take off and landing are handled by the instructor). After the flight you will be presented with a first flight certificate. IntotheBlue offers a huge range of alternative venues for flying lessons nationwide!

Flights are available all the week except on Mondays, throughout the year. Flights may be postponed if the weather conditions are poor.

The flying school is at Staverton (Gloucestershire) Airport halfway between Cheltenham and Gloucester with easy access from Junction 11 of the M5.

Minimum age is 14. Maximum limits of 6'4 and 15 stone also apply. Guests over 15 stone can be accommodated in a larger aircraft for an additional fee of £10 (payable on site).

Spectators are very welcome, the flying school provides tea, coffee and biscuits for guests. The nearby Aviator restaurant provides superb views across the airfield with hot and cold food available from 9.00am to 9.00pm every day.
