Located at Cranfield Airport, these 'land away' and standard trial lessons offer excellent training in either a two seater Piper Tomahawk or a four seater Piper Archer aircraft. Cranfield is renowned for its Centre of Aeronautics and is a busy little airport with good facilities and expert instruction, boasting a great location for your flying.

The beauty of this school is that you can 'fly with a friend' on a land away experience. You take the controls on the outward flight taking off from Cranfield, whilst your partner-in-flying occupies the rear seat of the aircraft - ideally positioned to capture your first flying manoeuvres on camera as you fly over such sights as Silverstone race circuit, Woburn Abbey, Althorpe House and Cambridge University. You can then change places during the turnaround at the second airfield, so your partner enjoys the second take off from the pilot's seat and gets to take the controls on the lesson back to Cranfield.

These flying experiences, one of many flying lessons from IntotheBlue take off from Cranfield offering good facilities for friends and family, as they can watch you from the airport viewing gallery in the control tower and actually hear the radio contact with air traffic control too. Cranfield airport offers 2000m of tarmac runway and the centre is JAR (Joint Aviation Requirements) approved and regularly inspected by the Civil Aviation Authority to maintain their approval certificates.

You'll enjoy a 30 minute pre flight briefing session with an experienced instructor before taking to the skies for your selected flight duration. You will be flying a 2 seater PA38 Tomahawk aircraft . After your flight you will receive a mini log book with details of the flight and a first flight certificate as a memento of your achievements. Time flown can be counted towards a PPL. Complimentary tea and coffee is included.

The 'Land away' provides the thrill of 2 x 30 minute flights for one person, with two take offs and landings you'll fly and land at another airfield in the 2 seater before the return flight to Cranfield.

The 'Fly with a Friend' 4 seater Land away is for 2 people who can share 2 x 30 minute hands on flights in a 4 seater PA28 Archer Aircraft, landing at another airfield before returning to Cranfield.


The experience is available on weekdays and weekends throughout the year. Lessons may be postponed in the event of bad weather conditions.


These flight lessons are located at Cranfield Airport, Bedfordshire with easy access from the M1 via junction 13 or 14.


There is a minimum age of 12 years old. There is a maximum weight limit of 16 stone. You will need to bring either a passport or photo driving licence as proof of identification.


Spectators are welcome to attend. There are great viewing areas in the control towers allowing you to watch participants fly whilst listening to them on the radio. There is café next door selling drinks and hot snacks. You are welcome to take photographs.
