This airliner flight simulator experience in Kent offers you and up to up three friends the chance to 'take control' of a passenger jet for a full 90 minutes - that's enough time to fly from London to Paris, attempting the take off, following the flight path and bringing the plane down to land at Charles de Gaulle without even leaving the ground.
This airliner flight simulator, designed to closely resemble the cockpit of a Boeing 737, is in a specially built module at the Bluewater shopping centre and has large windscreens to project your flight path with the same point of view a captain of a real airliner would have. There is even a row of passenger seats, so your friends can enjoy the in-flight entertainment, as you give your 'This is your captain speaking, welcome aboard this flight from London Bluewater to romantic Paris Charles de Gaulle' speech!
Once you've completed your take off and with plenty of time in the cockpit, your airliner flight simulator instructor (who are all qualified pilots) will show you how to follow your chosen flight path, carry out in-flight checks, read the instruments and carry out mid-flight manoeuvres. Then it's time to make your approach for the big landing. Spot the runway lights from the cockpit, maintain your line, regulate your speed..keep the wings level...and you're down. Quickly into reverse thrust, taxi to the stand, parking brake on (yes, airliners have 'hand brakes!') and time for a celebratory glass of champagne to toast your inaugural airline flight simulator experience.
Full Details: This experience takes place in a purpose built passenger jet simulator which closely resembles the flight deck of a Boeing 737NG. During a short preflight briefing your group can discuss what you'd like to get from the experience, your flight can be set up to include take offs and landings from a range of over 500 destinations around the world. Time in the cockpit will be approximately 90 minutes, enough time to fly from London to Paris. The flying time can be shared between 4 people, whilst one takes the controls the others can sit in authentic passenger seats and offer advice and encouragement. The experience can be tailored to suit people with no flying experience through to seasoned pilots, all the controls and instrumentation closely match a real aircraft. After your flight you'll each enjoy a glass of Champagne to celebrate your flight before being presented with a personalised certificate. One DVD recording of the flight is also included. Availability: Fog won't cancel these flights! the simulator is usually operational 7 days a week from 10am to 9pm (11am-5pm on Sundays).
Location: The simulator is located at Bluewater shopping centre with easy access from junctions 1 or 2 of the M25. A shuttle bus link operates from nearby Greenhithe station.
Requirements: Recommended minimum age is 12, however as long as you can reach the controls and take instruction from your pilot you can fly the simulator. Under 18's must be accompanied by a spectating adult. If you have a fear of flying the pilots can tailor the session to your requirements explaining how the aircraft works and what happens during each phase of the flight.
Spectators and Facilities: Additional spectators are welcome to come and watch free of charge, there are three passenger seats located behind the pilots offering a close up view of the action, a big screen TV can also display the flight to other spectators and passers by. Bluewater offers a wide range of restaurants, cafes, shops and cinemas. Your Champagne flight could be the focus point for a great evening or day out.
