The aim of taking part in a sporting trials challenge is to get as far up each hill section of the offroad site in Maidstone, Kent as possible before getting stuck in your trials car. To help each driver there is a passenger in the car, they can move their weight around to get the best possible traction on each wheel.

These cars have an excess of power over grip, with around 100bhp on tap in a car that weighs next to nothing; delicate use of the throttle is essential.  A unique aspect of these sporting trials cars is the "fiddle" brake set up.  By adjusting levers in the cockpit the individual braking force of each rear wheel can be controlled.  With this set up the cars have the unique ability to turn within their own length, making them the most unusual and agile vehicles you are ever likely to drive.

The experience starts with a classroom theory session and an introduction to the techniques and skills of sporting trials. High speed action is not the name of the game here - skill, challenge and achievement are! This activity has a ratio of four participants per instructor, so you spend about 30 minutes driving. Please allow 3-3.5 hours for this experience.


This activity is available most Saturdays throughout the year with other days by arrangement directly with the centre.  Arrival fifteen minutes before the booked time is required.


Minimum age is 11. All participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Maximum weight is 20 stone. If you are extraordinarily tall or short or feel your physique may impair your enjoyment of this activity please check with the centre when booking.  The centre will provide all safety equipment but please wear comfortable casual clothing that you don't mind getting dirty.  In wet weather a change of clothes are recommended.  Waterproofs are provided.


Spectators are welcome although viewing may be limited. The venue has a pleasant indoor meeting space with a vending machine, toilets and changing area. There is a good range of pubs, cafes and restaurants in the town nearby.
