Fire Engine Driving in Lincolnshire
On these fire engine driving sessions in Lincolnshire, you'll spend time with an experienced instructor and firefighter, learning how to drive one of these big reds safely and quickly.
You will manoeuvre either a 13 ton Dennis RS or Scania 82m fire appliance around a specially laid out private course including top gear main roads, roundabouts, T-junctions, slaloms and garages.
To make things as realistic as possible the vehicle will be carrying a full equipment load and carrying two tonnes of water. That should come in handy as you get to grips with the on board hose and extinguish any fires that may just appear en-route. The course ends with the presentation of a certificate and feedback from your instructor.
Experience Summary: Allow spending an hour and three quarters on site. Exclusive sessions include 1 hour of 1:1 drive time. Taster sessions provide 30 minutes of fire engine drive time plus 30 minutes riding as a passenger. On both experiences as well as driving you will get the chance to operate the hoses and extinguish a fire (at instructors discretion).
Availability: These activities run on weekdays and weekends throughout the year, with various start times both morning and afternoon.
Requirements: You must be 17 years of age or over. You must be fit enough to climb up into the cab. Maximum weight is 114kg (18 stone), maximum height 1.93m (6'4"), minimum height 1.57m (5'2"). A full valid UK or European driving licence will need to be brought and shown on the day.
Spectators and Facilities: 2 spectators are allowed to attend free of charge and can usually ride in the fire appliance for the duration of the course (subject to space on the day). Refreshments (tea, coffee, hot chocolate, orange, biscuits) will be available free of charge for the driver and guests. Additional guests can be taken but these must be booked in advance and an additional fee of £5 each applies payable on the day. There is usually a snack bar with rolls and bacon butties on sale.
