Slowly but very surely, flatten a reasonably priced used car with staggering ease! This Leicestershire venue uses either the Abbot tank or the FV432 armoured personnel carrier for your tank car crush thrill with a choice of other drive a tank experiences on our main tank section.

Of course, you can't just jump into a tank and drive over a car to crush it, these full tracked war machines need a little bit of skill to control, so your activity day starts with a safety briefing and explanation of the controls before driving a variety of tracked and wheeled vehicles.

Under normal circumstances, the tanks would be equipped with ammunition, commanders, radio operators, ammunition handlers and second commanders, but you have the chance to drive tanks and armoured personnel carriers for around eight miles before you do the tank car crush deed with just the instructor and a friend or loved one as a passenger if you like.

If it's the Abbot you'll be driving, you will be taking a 16 ton tank, complete with 105mm field gun mounted on a fully rotating turret, and doing the only decent thing by putting an old car out of it's misery on one graceful crush.

If it's the FV432 you drive, you'll love the mega powerful Rolls Royce engine, which amazingly gives a full speed of 32 mph - not bad for an armoured personnel carrier weighing 15 tons, even without any personnel inside!

It has to be said the tank car crush  has to be one of the best things to photograph as you roll over the car bonnet, crushing the engine and sending shards of windscreen glass flying. Don't worry about that tank, that'll escape without even a scratch on it's welded steel bodywork, as for the car, well we reckon it will have seen better days by the time you've finished with it on this rather special tank car crush day!

Your tank car crush activity will last around six hours. Other full day tank driving activities are also available from IntotheBlue. This particular activity includes, a welcome and safety briefing, introduction to the military vehicles and tank controls, a tank driving practice session and course driving totalling around 8 miles and the car crush finale. You may be part of a group of up 20 spilt into teams driving under the guidance of an experienced instructor. Car crush driving is 1:1 under the guidance of an experienced instructor. Lunch is provided along with tea and coffee throughout the day. You'll receive tuition and driving sessions in each of the following military vehicles:
17 tonne Abbot Tank
FV432 Armoured Personnel Carrier
Bedford MJ 4x4 troop carrier
BV 206 Hagglund All Terrain Vehicle.
The Car Crush activity will take place in either an Abbot tank or an FV 432 armoured personnel carrier. A personalised certificate will be presented to each driver at the end of the day.


The tank driving centre is open 12 months of the year and car crush experiences can usually be arranged to order, subject to vehicle availability and extreme weather conditions. In winter months the activity runs on Saturdays only.


The venue is a military driving centre near Burton on Trent, within easy reach of Leicester, Birmingham, Derby, Nottingham and East Midlands Airport, via the M42 and M1.  


Minimum age is 16. Minimum height is 5'2". Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting wet and dirty and if possible bring a spare set to change into. Overalls are provided along with protective headgear. Boots or stout footwear are essential.


Spectators are welcome to attend, a £20 fee for each guest applies and includes refreshments and tank rides. There is space for 1 guest to ride in the turret.
