On this Hummer H1 experience that takes place near Canterbury in Kent, you can drive one of the original military versions of these incredibly powerful 4x4s - not to be confused with the commercially produced H2 and H3 versions, more often seen as the American SUV of choice for the rich and famous.
Affectionately known as the Humvee, these vehicles were originally designed for military use to pretty much drive anywhere off road, hence the full name High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle. Stepping up into the cab to drive a hummer is a gadget lover's delight - there's even a switch that will alter tyre pressure for controlling tyre grip and floatation over soft ground, so if you find yourself Hummer driving in the desert you know what to do!
Under the bonnet is an impressive 6.2l V8 diesel engine needed to power this monster H1 Hummer truck which measures a full 8ft wide. They might not very practical on road, but being in a Hummer driving off road can't be beaten! This particular Hummer H1 has seen plenty of military experience, as well as time on numerous film sets.
Before you get to drive a Hummer yourself, your instructor will take you on a familiarisation drive so you know what to expect ..and then it's Hummer time! You will enjoy 1:1 tuition where you'll attack the steepest slopes, the largest steps, the muddiest ditches and scariest banks.
Two guests (friends or family) can accompany you and ride as passengers or even share the driving time if you want to let them!

The Hummer experience includes a welcome, safety briefing, introduction to the vehicle and approximately 45 minutes of driving with 1:1 instruction. The venue uses ex-military and civilian versions of the Hummer. If you're looking for a larger driving experience then please see our main
Tank Driving & Military Vehicle page.

Hummer driving takes place all year round (it's SO not afraid of bad weather!)
Anytime vouchers allow you to drive weekdays and weekends, Off Peak vouchers allow you drive Tuesday to Thursday. Morning and afternoon sessions are usually available.

The venue is a purpose built off road driving centre near Canterbury in Kent. Sturry or Herne Bay railway stations are within 3 miles of the venue. A choice of alternative
tank driving activities in other areas is available.

To be able to drive a Hummer you must be a minimum of 17yrs old and all drivers must have a full, valid driving licence. There are no height or weight restrictions - as long as you can fit behind the wheel of a normal car you should be fine driving a Hummer. The site is exposed and conditions underfoot can be wet and muddy so you should wear appropriate clothing which may get muddy. A change of clothing and footwear is ideal.

Up to four spectators may be permitted but must be booked in with the supplier in advance. Remember two guests can ride with you as passengers. Views of the action are limited, as the course includes dense woodland. Tea and Coffee are available in the cabin which provides a sheltered viewing area of some of the course.
