On this half day tanks experience in Brackley, Northamptonshire, you'll be driving a variety of armoured vehicles and tanks on purpose-built offroad tracks. There's a a very real motive to your missions as well, as throughout the session you will be competing for the title of best tanks driver, with the winner getting to crush a vehicle in the biggest tank you've ever seen!
The first of the tanks you'll be tackling is the Abbott Gun. This is a self-propelled fully tracked vehicle with one of those classic fully rotating turrets at the rear, complete with a hefty 105mm gun, boasting some serious fire power. You won't be firing this baby, but you will be driving this agile machine that can reach some serious speed, handy on the battlefield. Then it's on to the Hagglunds people carrier, a fully articulated vehicle capable of carrying up to 17 soldiers over rough and ready terrain, that looks like a big, beefy truck.
Finally you'll have a go at driving the 432 Armoured Personnel Carrier. This APC weighs in at 15 tonnes, runs with Rolls Royce multi-fuel 240bhp engines and can travel at up to 32mph.
As well as driving all that military machinery, you'll be invited to take part in one of the ground activities offered, including an SAS-style woodland trek, a workshop on armoury with an ex-SAS soldier, or step back in time to discover 18th Century armoury with a demo and talk.
Once the scores have all been totted up, the best driver on this half day tanks experience in Brackley will be honoured with the chance to crush a vehicle with the almighty Chieftain tank. At 56 tonnes, this beefcake of a tank is almost as impressive to watch as it trundles around the Brackley countryside as it is to drive!
