The main Subaru Impreza you'll be driving is rather special. It has been converted to be rear wheel drive (they're usually all wheel drive), so what does that mean for you? It means the car has the tendency to oversteer around the corners, which is what rally driving is all about, so you know this experience will be fun getting that proper sliding action going on as you whip around the corners.
The loose gravel stage here at Shepperton has been purpose designed and built to be challenging and exhilarating for all levels of rally driver and there are dates all year round, so expect the dust to go flying in the summer and mud to be slung in the wetter months. Each experience includes a briefing, your sessions in the driver's seat and a high speed passenger ride to round off the day, where one of the professional drivers (some of the instructors here have driven British Rally Championship or even World Rally Championship stages) will be showing you how to push the car to its limits.
If you choose the full day rally driving in London package, you get to drive two Subarus. During the morning you will be learning the tricks of the trade in the trainer car with special rear-wheel drive set up and then in the afternoon (after a break for lunch) it's time for the big test in the monster that is the all wheel drive Subaru Impreza RA. This turbo boosted, full-spec version has been completely stripped of all weight to make it the supreme rally car, so forget the in car radio and even central locking, it's all about limited slip differential, bucket seats and roll cages. This is rallying at its rawest - and it's you in the hot seat driving.
