
On your steam train excursion in Lancashire, you'll enjoy a three course Sunday Lunch in the comfort and style of beautifully restored dining carriages pulled by a magnificent steam locomotive. Travel through the beautiful Irwell Valley in Pullman style coaches which have been lovingly restored for your comfort and enjoyment.
Your day starts as soon as you arrive at the beautifully restored period railway station (12.30pm for a 1.00pm departure). You are welcome to arrive early to view the station or visit the station bar before boarding the immaculately restored vintage first class restaurant carriage.
The nostalgic steam rail journey will pass through some spectacular countryside, with all the smells and sounds of the steam train acting as a wonderful accompaniment to your meal. The train stops en route, allowing time for you to stretch your legs and take a closer look at the locomotive and chat to staff. Your journey finishes back at Bolton Street Station at 3.00pm.

The Sunday steam lunch experience lasts approximately two and a half hours and includes a three course lunch and coffee onboard vintage steam hauled Pullman coaches. The train leaves Bury Bolton Street station and travels around ten miles North to Rawtenstall via Ramsbottom, it then turns around and retraces it’s route South this time after passing through Bury the train heads East for around four miles to Heywood before turning around again and returning to Bury. The train will usually pause at intermediate stations giving guests the chance to stretch their legs. The total distance travelled is approximately 28 miles. Steam lunch experiences operate on most Sundays from April to December. During December the lunch will be from the Christmas Menu. The train usually boards at 1230 and returns at around 1500. Please note that the provision of a steam locomotive is subject to availability and the operator reserves the right to substitute a diesel powered locomotive should circumstances dictate this to be necessary. Menus vary each month, samples are listed below but specific menus will be confirmed when you book.

The activities depart from and return to Bolton Street Station in Bury, easily accessible from the M66.

There are no age requirements however cheaper child tickets are available for youngsters aged 5-15. The station has wheelchair access however dining guests will need to be able to make their own way onto the carriages which unfortunately are not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. No drinks are included with the meal other than after lunch coffee.

The ‘Trackside’ bar offers a selection of drinks and snacks to purchase at the station. The train offers a well stocked bar with house wine available from £11.00 per bottle. The dining coaches have been designated non-smoking in accordance with the wishes of the customers. The operator can advise visitors on local accommodation in the area.
