Introductory Wine Courses

Are you baffled by restaurant wine lists? Can't you tell a Rioja from Ribena? Worry no more - these one day wine courses are ideal for both the complete beginner and those with a little experience. Best of all you will get to sample 14 superb examples from around the world under the guidance of experienced wine experts.
These courses are hosted by Margaret Silbermann, an expert in the world of wine who has travelled the globe visiting numerous wine regions. her enthusiasm and knowledge will give you a real insight into understanding and enjoying wine.
The introductory wine course is ideal for wine novices as no previous knowledge is required, other than enjoying the odd glass now and then! We also offer a quality selection of vineyard tours and wine tasting experiences outside London, please see our main vineyard tours page for more information.
During the day you will taste 14 quality wines from around the world which will be used as a basis to discuss topics including the basics of wine tasting, how wine is made, styles of wine, wine's ability to mature, how to serve wine, matching food and wine, reading wine labels and identifying faults with wine. Never again will you be left sniffing a bottle wondering if it is corked or make a faux pas by ordering the wrong wine with dinner.

Courses run from 1100 to 1700 with an hours break for lunch (lunch not included). You will taste 14 different wines during your day. Wine, tasting glasses, water, biscuits and notes are provided. You will be part of a group of up to 16 trainee tasters.

Courses are available on selected Saturdays throughout the year, usually at least once a month. Courses are unavailable in July, August and December 15th - January 15th.

The courses take place in The Bloomsbury St Hotel with easy access from Tottenham Court Road tube station.

Minimum age is 18.

This activity is not suitable for spectators, however, the venue is close to Oxford Street, Covent Garden, Soho and Regents Park. The hotel offers a restaurant, bar and toilet facilities as well as providing access for disabled visitors.
