Western Adventure in Hampshire

New Forest

Experiences Flash element

Your western riding adventure day starts with coffee and a bacon sandwich as you meet with the trail leaders who will explain what to expect during your days adventure in the New Forest. After grooming and getting to know the authentic Paint and Appaloosa horses, you will learn how to fit the tack and lead your horse around the yard.

You will then proceed into one of the riding centre's arenas where you will learn the relaxed style of Western riding.  You will then break for lunch - hay and water for your horse, a chicken and steak barbecue lunch for the riders!

After lunch you will ride out into the wild blue yonder following trails through the New Forest, taking you across the plains where you will encounter free roaming forest ponies, foals and cattle.  As you head into the forest enclosures you might be lucky enough to glimpse Forest Deer or other woodland inhabitants.

After a couple of hours trekking you will head back to the ranch where you will help your 'Western Crew' un-tack the horses and make sure they are fed and watered before turning them out into their fields for a well earned rest.  You can then kick back with more hot coffee, doughnuts and enjoy tales of your cowboy adventures.

These western riding experiences are suitable for beginners and all horses are used to novice riders.  Allow spending a whole day on the experience.  Sessions usually start at 0900 and include a riding lesson between 1030 and 1230 followed by lunch and an afternoon trail returning around 1600.  In total you will spend approximately four hours in the saddle.  Breakfast and a barbecue lunch are provided along with soft drinks, coffee and doughnuts (vegetarian options are available).  All equipment is provided including safety hats and stetsons.  There may be up to 12 other cowboys in your 'Western Crew' on the day.  You will be accompanied by experienced instructors throughout the day.

Western Adventures operate between February and November, usually on Fridays or Sundays each month.  The centre is closed on Mondays and bank holidays.

The riding school is located near New Milton on the southern edge of the New Forest.

Minimum age is 12 years.  Maximum weight is 15 stone.  Riders must wear long trousers and shoes or boots with a small heel.  Flat soled shoes or trainers are NOT suitable.  Trails go out in all weathers so please dress accordingly.  Cameras cannot be taken on rides.  Previous riding experience is not required.  You will need to supply the following details for each rider when booking: height, weight and level of any previous riding experience (Beginner, novice or experienced) and also if a vegetarian meal is required.

The activity is not suitable for spectators, however, visitors are welcome to wait at the ranch.  Riding lessons may be available to book on the day.  The centre can recommend accommodation nearby.
