Your encounter with the owls begins with meeting and greeting the team and a safety briefing, then it's time for you to meet the birds. Your heart will melt when you meet Ollie the White Faced Scops Owl - weighing in a just over three ounces he's the smallest, cutest owl you ever did see. You'll also say hello to the impressive European Eagle Owls that weigh over six pounds.

You'll also learn a lot about owls with entertaining anecdotes and facts from your expert guide. Did you know owls turning their heads 360 degrees is actually a myth? And that these creatures who feed on mice and frogs can't actually digest all their prey? You'll find all this out and a whole lot more.

On this Owl experience in the Essex countryside you don't just get to meet the owls, you get to see them in their natural habitat and fly with them too. Once you've been taught the basics on handling techniques, you'll be taken into the open countryside with the owls and have a go at flying your owl and watching their behaviour in the wild. A truly fascinating couple of hours with nature.

This experience will allow you to handle a variety of different owls including a small White Faced Scops Owl and a large European Eagle Owl. Your expert falconer will be on hand to provide you with interesting facts and knowledge about each owl and birds of prey in general. The experience will last for two hours. You may be joining part of a small group.

All participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a participating adult.


Spectators are welcome but must pay a spectators fee of £15 (payable onsite). Barleylands Farm and Craft village offers plenty of attractions including children's play areas, farm park, arts and crafts shops and a farmers' market.
