Enjoy Falconry in Essex with this hands-on half day! Spend a morning or afternoon with an expert falconer to discover all about the world of birds of prey at this superb farming, falconry and craft centre near Billericay.

Your half day with the birds give you the opportunity to both handle and fly a variety of birds of prey to your gloved fist including Hawks, Owls and Falcons. You'll soon learn that each bird has very much its own personality and as most of the birds have been raised at the centre from chicks, you'll hear all about their development from egg to fully fledged adult bird.

Nigel, who is director at the centre, is immensely passionate about his birds of prey and his enthusiasm is sure to rub on you during these half day sessions.  Specialising in African birds of prey, Nigel is bound to want to introduce you to Mika, the African Fish Eagle who likes nothing more than to gobble down a tasty morsel of fresh fish.

This falconry Essex experience is an excellent gift choice for anyone you know who would like to get up close to these magnificent birds and get loads of hands on action flying the birds too. It's flexible too, with morning and afternoon sessions offered.

The half day experience provides a great introduction into falconry and birds of prey.  You will have the opportunity to handle and fly a variety of birds of prey to your gloved hand including Hawks, Falcons and Owls. You will be shown the equipment used for the birds. Your instructor will describe each bird being flown in detail including its natural habitat and hunting behaviours. The experience lasts approximately three hours. You may be joining a small group of six on the day.


Half day falconry experiences take place most weekday and weekend dates throughout the year. Both morning and afternoon sessions are available.


The falconry centre is located at Barleylands Farm Park and Craft Village located in Billericay, Essex.


The minimum age for participants is 15, however younger guests may take part if accompanied by a paying adult.


Spectators are welcome and will be asked to pay a spectators fee of £15 onsite. Barleylands Farm and Craft village offers plenty of attractions including children's play areas, farm park, arts and crafts shops and a farmer market.
