Experience Ref:FALWS1

These falconry experiences allow you to handle birds of prey including Hawks, Falcons and Owls in the beautiful surroundings of the countryside near Nuneaton.

Steve, the head falconer, has been a professional falconer for over 20 years and was one of the first people in the country to offer hawk handling experiences to members of the public.  His knowledge and passion for falconry means you will enjoy a truly memorable experience.

Experiences provide complete beginners with a hands on introduction to the art of falconry.  After a short history of the sport the elements of owning and flying birds of prey are explained.  You will then learn about the characteristics of the various species of bird you will encounter and how the basic items of falconry equipment are used.  You will learn how to safely pick up a hawk and carry it securely.  Once you are comfortable with the birds you can enjoy the amazing experience of a free flight where the bird will fly from and return to your gloved hand.  There are usually 10 different birds on site including different owl species which can usually be included in the experience on request.
Hawk handling experiences last three and a half hours, you will get to handle a variety of birds and learn about the art of falconry.  A personalised certificate and information pack is presented at the end of the handling experiences.  There is usually a maximum of six people on this experience. Please see our home page for more IntotheBlue experiences nationwide.
Handling sessions run from 1000 to 1330 on weekends throughout the year.
