These falconry experiences allow you to handle birds of prey including Hawks, Falcons and Owls in the beautiful surroundings of the countryside near Nuneaton.
Steve, the head falconer, has been a professional falconer for over 20 years and was one of the first people in the country to offer hawk handling experiences to members of the public. His knowledge and passion for falconry means you will enjoy a truly memorable experience.
Handling Half Days provide complete beginners with a hands on introduction to the art of falconry. After a short history of the sport the elements of owning and flying birds of prey are explained. You will then learn about the characteristics of the various species of bird you will encounter and how the basic items of falconry equipment are used. You will learn how to safely pick up a hawk and carry it securely. Once you are comfortable with the birds you can enjoy the amazing experience of a free flight where the bird will fly from and return to your gloved hand. There are usually 10 different birds on site including different owl species which can usually be included in the experience on request.
Hawking Days are a more involved day where you will head off into the countryside accompanied by a team of hawks, dogs and ferrets. You will spend the day learning how to handle the hawks and then working with the animals to hunt the wild prey that you encounter.

Hawk handling experiences last three and a half hours, you will get to handle a variety of birds and learn about the art of falconry. A personalised certificate and information pack is presented at the end of the handling experiences. Hawking days last approximately seven hours and you will be out hunting for prey with hawks, dogs and ferrets. Lunch is included on the hawking full days. Handling sessions run from 1000 to 1330 on weekends throughout the year. Hawking days usually run from 1000 to 1700 on selected weekends and weekdays from October 1st to January 31st.

The minimum age for hawk handling and hawking days is 10. Under 16's must be accompanied by an adult. Hawking days involve walking across rough and uneven ground. Sensible outdoor clothing and footwear are advised for all experiences.

Spectators are welcome on handling days. The site offers numerous facilities including restaurants, gift shops, a visitor centre and toilets. Parking is available with a charge of £1.50. Spectators are not permitted on hawking days.
