The history and practice of falconry are combined in this excellent introduction to the sport.  Half and full day experiences take place in a picturesque countryside conservation area near Langworth in Lincolnshire, where you can enjoy close encounters with wonderful birds of prey, such as Eagle Owls and Peregrine Falcons and watch them display their awesome hunting skills in the field.

This half day Birds of Prey Experience starts on arrival with a brief outline on the sport from its origins to its spread to Europe, where it became the pastime of royalty.  You will find out about todays laws which protect birds of prey and be introduced to the different types of hawks and falcons which are used in modern falconry.  You will learn how to handle the birds safely and how to fit their 'furniture'.  You will also be given an insight into how they are trained, right from the early stages to flying free.

The experience culminates in the flying of one of the trained birds to the fist in a wonderful woodland countryside setting. Falconry experiences are also available countrywide including Falconry in Scotland.

The full day experience follows the same itinerary as the half day experience through to lunch.  In the afternoon there is the added attraction of accompanying an experienced falconer into the field to witness the birds pursuing their natural quarry.  There are few sights in falconry more awe inspiring than a rare Peregrine Falcon stooping at great speed to seize a wild grey partridge on the fly.

Half days usually run 0930-1300, full days from 0930-1600. Experience ratio is usually four people to one expert falconer. Full days include a light lunch. This Wildlife and Falconry Park is set in beautiful surroundings on the edge of Newball Wood, five miles east of Lincoln and just a few miles from the Lincolnshire Wolds.


Minimum age 12.  Children aged between 12 and 16 must be accompanied by a participating adult. Please wear dark country style clothing and walking shoes, but please bring waterproof boots and clothing in case of wet weather.


One guest per participant can watch the experience (additional fee of £20 for half days and £35 for full days applies). Additional friends and family are welcome to enjoy the facilities at the centre  including an adventure play area, woodland walks, tropical animal displays, Gift Shop and tearoom (entrance fee of around £7 applies).
