These experiences are hosted at one of the country's finest birds of prey centres, a family-run business that has been established for more than 50 years on a superb country estate near Biggleswade in Bedfordshire. Falconry and other birds of prey venues are listed on our main Falconry page.
The collection of birds numbers about 300, including some endangered species from around the world. The courses offer all levels of involvement, from a simple introduction to more advanced two day falconry training and full day hunts with hawks.
2 Hour Experience - In two hours you will have the chance to handle and fly a huge variety of birds chosen from amongst one of the largest collections in the UK. You will be given the opportunity to get up close to and handle Hawks and Vultures. The emphasis is on a "hands on" approach to learning and experiencing these wonderful birds. The day starts at 10.00 and ends at 12.00.
Introduction Day - This is your chance to encounter and handle a great variety of birds and to tour the centre and view its exceptional collection. Your day starts at 0930 with a short discussion that will cover such subjects as falconry equipment, the birds' food and health, the laws which protect birds of prey, and the different types of hawks and falcons that are flown today. You will be taken around to meet and hold some of these magnificent birds and given plenty of opportunities to ask questions and take photographs. This will be followed by lunch in the centre's restaurant (not included in the price). In the afternoon there is a practical demonstration on free flying the hawks, falcons and owls. The highlight of your day will be the opportunity to fly birds yourself under supervision. This is a fun day, so to be sure to bring your camera or video along.
Hawking - half day courses. This course puts the sport of falconry into its full context, introducing you to the thrill of the chase as you hunt live quarry, working a team of Harris hawks. If you do not wish to take part in a proper hunt, you can choose to enjoy a hawk walk where the birds will demonstrate their skills, but with no live animals as prey. The day starts at 1000 for coffee. Guests are introduced to the falconers and hawks before leaving for the hunting venue in the heart of the Bedfordshire countryside. Transport is provided in the centre's own four wheel drive vehicles. You will spend the rest of the morning hunting with the hawks before returning to the centre.
